With forecasts projecting frigid weather, residents across the state spent Monday preparing for a chilly week.

Some residents stocked up on groceries, while others had their car batteries checked or replaced.

Employees at Stew Leonard's in Norwalk told News 12 that the cold weather meant a busy day at the store. They say shoppers were stocking up on essentials like bread and milk, as well as comfort foods like soups and mashed potatoes.

The owner of Accurate Auto Repair in Norwalk says cold weather often leads to dead car batteries. He says people should play it safe by having their batteries checked and by making sure they have a spare tire.

Fran Mayko, of AAA, says they are bracing for a busy week due to the forecast. Mayko recommends keeping an emergency kit in the car with items such as bottles of water, snow shovels, salt and snow brushes.
