The library on Katonah Avenue in Woodlawn Heights is going to get the space it needs thanks to a new renovation project.
The current library is only 2,500 square feet, but it will be 5,000 square feet once the renovations are complete.
The plans call for a community room and more space for children's programs, which manager Rana Smith says is necessary to the library.
"Right now the community is asking for programs, they love having programs and they like programs that are family centered, so in our new building we are going to have a room that we can have separately for programs," says Smith.
Parents say they are thrilled to hear about the project. They say programs for the kids fill up quickly because space is so limited.
Construction is planned to start late next year, which means there will need to be a temporary location, but staff members say it will be worth it.
Woodlawn Heights is one of dozens of capital projects in the Bronx, where $115 million in capital funding is reserved for improvements.
