Joe Corsello, 78, served as a Stamford police officer for more than two decades – but law enforcement wasn't his first career.

"I started out as a professional drummer during the Big Band era in the 1950s, and it was incredibly rewarding to have been part of that golden age of music," Corsello told News 12.

Corsello says the music business on the East Coast began changing during the late 1970s, with many of the popular TV programs he worked on moving to Los Angeles.

"That's when I became a Stamford police officer," he said.

Corsello is now giving back to his community by performing for free at local nursing homes.

"It deeply gratifying to see the happy faces of folks who remember and love to this day," Corsello said.
