Born from a love of food, one husband-and-wife team is serving up some of their favorite Asian-inspired treats.

Wesley Zhang says growing up in Connecticut, he would have to go to New York to get bubble tea.

Now he and his wife Bernice are bringing specialized drinks, mochi donuts and Korean corn dogs to Westport in their shop, Retreat Sweets.

"We have coffee. We have matcha, we have Vietnamese coffee," the Zhangs say.

Bernice says they also have a book of 300 flavors of mochi donuts.

"So, Mochi donuts are a little different from regular donuts. They're made primarily with rice flour. So, they give you that bouncy, chewy texture," she says.

Sweet and savory - some favorites include Cookies & Cream, Crème brûlée and even their own Chili Crisp.

Wesley says that he hopes people will come to give these treats a try.

"What we have is kind of like the mix, that in-between, that familiar middle ground where everyone knows what a donut is. Some people know what mochi is. Why not give it a shot? If you like it, you like it," he says.

Bernice urges people to come explore all they have to offer.

"Well, I hope it gives them something new that they haven't tried before, and also, come back for more because they like it so much."

Retreat Sweets is open seven days a week. Find them at 1533 Post Road East. They are also available for catering or pop-up events.
