Word of another possible MTA fare hike on subways and buses has Bronx residents upset, but they admit they're not really surprised.

The MTA will meet next month to discuss if and when a fare hike would go into effect. The MTA says increased diesel prices and dropping real estate taxes have created a deficit totaling hundreds of millions of dollars.

Fares would increase a quarter or more on subways, buses and commuter trains in 2009, marking consecutive years the MTA would hike costs.

Some riders say they've seen more people in line for mass transit as gas prices go up, which makes them wonder where the money from those extra riders is going.

Some fear if the MTA doesn't receive money from Albany, the increased operation costs would fall onto riders.
