A man from Ridgefield has been charged in the U.S. Capitol riot, officials say.
Prosecutors say Patrick Edward McCaughey squeezed a Capitol Police officer with a riot shield. Photos of the officer pushed up between the shield and a door have gone viral on social media.
McCaughey was arrested Tuesday.
The Department of Justice says he's been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees, civil disorder, entering restricted building or grounds and violent entry or disorderly conduct.
McCaughey appeared at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District in New York. He will then be appearing in Washington, D.C.
