Athletes hit the track on a hot and muggy Monday at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale to benefit children in the long run.
Hundreds of runners had their choice of a 5K or 10K race with an entry fee of about $25. Proceeds will go toward programs that help teens learn more about nature and enjoy the park, and also to preserve the trails.
The Van Cortlandt Track Club and the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park teamed up to organize the race.
Betty Clark, of the Van Cortlandt Track Club says that the park is an amazing place with a great course, and they want to make sure that people know about it.
