Some students at Sacred Heart University said poll workers harassed them Tuesday while trying to vote.

So many complaints came in that the secretary of the state sent an attorney to the school to investigate. Sacred Heart even had its attorney contact the city. After that, the Democratic voter registrar personally went to the university.

Students say poll workers ridiculed them, and in some cases, asked for documents that aren't needed to vote.

"There are some students that were asked for a Connecticut license or else they couldn't vote," said student Olivia Chaponis. "I was also told that some of the workers just were saying to us students, 'Why are you here? Like, shouldn't you be in class right now? Like, you're not supposed to be here, you're not in our community.'"

News 12 is told things have improved significantly since the registrar and the state showed up Tuesday afternoon.

So many Sacred Heart students showed up for a local election because they're upset about a controversial city ordinance that would limit how many students could share a house.
