A saliva-based coronavirus test developed at Yale University has received emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

Tests could be deployed to labs for use in the coming weeks.

The SalivaDirect method is being used to test asymptomatic athletes and coaches in the National Basketball Association.

The Jackson Laboratory in Farmington is working with Yale University to make the test more widely available.
