Students from Sandy Hook Elementary are preparing to head to their new school at the beginning of the year.

The superintendent says classes will start Jan. 3 at Chalk Hill School in Monroe.

The former middle school has been empty for two years.

The superintendent says they will consolidate the first-grade classes because one of the three rooms had just one remaining student.

She says the return is a complicated and sensitive process for everyone.

Parents will have a chance to tour the school on Jan. 2.
