A Bridgeport man who police say is a "high priest" of the Santeria religion appeared before a judge Wednesday.
Police say that initially, 40-year-old Felix Delgado, of 518 Hallett St., was the target of a drug investigation, alleging that he was selling large quantities of heroin from his home. They soon found that Delgado was also being investigated for allegedly stealing human remains from a mausoleum in Massachusetts.
In his basement, police say they found human bones, a child-sized casket and altars typical of the darkest side of the Santeria subculture.
Neighbors say some people in the area knew of Delgado's alleged behavior, but were afraid to report him.
He showed up to court Wednesday in a wheelchair because he experienced heart trouble after his arrest.
Court officials say Delgado waived extradition to Massachusetts. A judge set his bond at $125,000.
