When one person donates a pint of blood, it goes to three other people. Now imagine how many lives 400 gallons of blood can save.
On Thursday, the Connecticut Epilepsy Advocate Foundation hosted a blood drive to celebrate its monumental achievement.
"The shortage of blood donations is always there," said president Bob Fiore says. "Let's raise those numbers up and save more lives."
The foundation helps veterans find medical help for their epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder.
"If people can't find the correct doctor or they can't afford their medication," Fiore says, "we help them."
Those giving blood at the event say donating the gift of life is priceless.
"My sister is a critical care ICU nurse, and she tells me all the time about trauma," Jennifer Marchesseault says. "People are sick and they need blood."
