The priest of a local church plagued by scandal resigned Tuesday from his post and the priesthood.Father Michael Madden of Saint John?s Catholic Church on Post Road in Darien told his superiors he has several reasons for leaving. He plans to disclose some of them in a note to parishioners in Thursday?s edition of the Darien Times.Father Madden is the same priest responsible for revealing the financial discrepancies of Father Michael Jude Fay earlier this year. Father Madden hired a private detective to tail Father Fay without informing the diocese. According to the detective, Father Fay had siphoned more than $1 million in church funds to support a luxurious secret life with another man. Many parishioners say they were stunned to learn of Father Madden?s resignation. The church is holding a Friday night meeting in the parish hall to discuss his departure.
