Flowers, candles and signs are being displayed at the athletic complex at Wilton High School as a remembrance to George DiRocco – a student athlete who passed away from an undetected heart condition.
The Wilton native played football starting at a very young age and was a star on the school’s baseball team.
The Wilton Warrior Gridiron Club says they have plans to set up a scholarship in DiRocco's name.
"If you had an issue, you could go to George and he would listen to you,” said Ryan Masterson, the club’s president. “It wasn't about him, it was about others.”
DiRocco is being remembered as a kid that everyone liked, his death a shock to many. "He was humble, he was kind, he was a good teammate," Masterson said. "In this horrible tragedy, you've seen what's best about our community"
The scholarship will be awarded every year to a Wilton High football player.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning.
