A New Canaan school is taking precautionary measures to guard against swine flu.
Officials at New Canaan Country School say more than a dozen of its students and a teacher who just returned from Mexico on Saturday were asked to stay home Monday.
"Everybody needs to feel comfortable. This kind of thing can accelerate and people get anxious about it," says Jennifer Christensen, the school's director of communications. "Our role here is just to make sure people feel safe and comfortable and that there's nothing to be worried about."
Administrators say the students were not in any areas where swine flu has been found, and no one is sick. They expect everyone to be back in class Tuesday and are keeping parents updated through e-mail alerts.
The World Health Organization says the swine flu virus is now suspected in up to 149 deaths in Mexico, the epicenter of the outbreak. Fifty cases total, none fatal, have been confirmed in the United States. Six others have been reported in Canada.
