As first responders continue their search for the bodies of two missing swimmers, a Danbury resident is outlining the difficulties search teams can face while on Candlewood Lake.

“If they’re trying to drag the bottom, there’s stumps and everything being a man made, freshwater lake,” Richard Ginty says. “There could be sunken boats out there like any place.”

Ginty says a combination of cloudy water and weeds could also hamper first responders’ efforts.

“You could be an Olympic swimmer and get caught in that,” Ginty says. “It gets wrapped around you.”

State officials are urging water safety. Police are reminding the public to avoid the area as search teams continue the investigation.
