Sen. Richard Blumenthal and gun violence prevention advocates say progress needs to continue to be made on the issue.
Blumenthal says there are several doable measures that gun owners support that Congress can pass, including safe storage laws.
Advocates also say there needs to be a national office of gun violence prevention, like the one in Connecticut.
They say it would make it easier for organizations, and those most impacted, to work together.
Blumenthal says he wants Congress to hold a vote on the assault weapons ban.
