Sen. Richard Blumenthal was at the state Capitol Monday demanding Amazon to crackdown on fake product reviews.
The senator said reports from Fakespot showed 42% of Amazon reviews are false and warned students and parents when back-to-school shopping.
Blumenthal said some reviews are generated in order to influence ratings and sometimes manipulated by sellers who offer consumers incentives in exchange for good reviews.
"I'm demanding today that it do more, because it knows they're fake, it has the capacity to crack down and all that's needed is devoting the resources to protecting the authenticity and trustworthiness of these reviews," Blumenthal urged.
The senator says Amazon has failed to remove and regulate fake reviews.
