Sen. Blumenthal calls on FDA to ban menthol cigarettes
A new study on menthol cigarettes shows the products target youth and often serve as a starter product for young smokers to get hooked.
According to the information released by the FDA, the menthol makes it more difficult to quit smoking.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, along with others, is now calling on the agency to ban menthol cigarettes entirely.
“By banning the use of menthol in cigarettes, we will stop many children from beginning and enable many smokers to quit and that’s why the FDA should ban menthol flavored cigarettes,” says Blumenthal.
The senator went on to say the tobacco industry also targets African-Americans with menthol through various strategic marketing initiatives.
