Sen. Richard Blumenthal says a "classified secret briefing" that the U.S. Senate received Wednesday on TikTok was "terrifying and demands action."
Blumenthal says he's pushing for legislation that would force the Chinese government to sell the platform, which he says is making data available to Chinese intelligence services.
"TikTok is in effect a gun pointed at Americans' heads because they are relentlessly, every day, collecting data on 170 million Americans and potentially using it for propaganda that undermines our democracy and continuing surveillance of our people,” Blumenthal said.
He says he does not support banning the platform, but rather forcing it to sever ties with the Chinese government.
