The state Senate today approved a bill requiring an electronic tracking system for rape kits.
The legislation says that victims must have access to information about when the kit was tested and whether it matched a DNA profile.
In a statement, Gov. Dannel Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and first lady Cathy Malloy applauded the Senate’s 36-0 vote.
The legislation now heads to the House.
