Sen. Chris Murphy is asking President Trump to get on board with gun control.
The senator’s message comes in the wake of the latest school shooting in Parkland, Florida, but Murphy has been advocating for tighter laws since the Sandy Hook massacre back in 2012.
"The president has the potential to move mountains here,” says Murphy. “The gun lobby, as I noted in that meeting, has had veto power over legislation that 97 percent of Americans support, universal background checks and if the president wants to do this, all he has to do is get 10 or 15 Democrat and Republican senators to the table."
Senator Richard Blumenthal is also advocating for change, saying, “Connecticut is proof that common sense gun safety laws and school safety measures save lives. We need more Connecticut common sense in Congress, not hare-brained pandering to the NRA."
