Maria Carrasquillo, of Bridgeport, is recovering from two major surgeries but has missed all of her follow-up doctor appointments.
"Follow-up care is crucial after surgery – but how can I go if I can't get down the stairs? It's crazy and it's wrong," Carrasquillo told News 12.
The 57-year-old grandmother – like everybody else who lives in the Greene Homes community – is feeling the effects of a three-week elevator outage.
"I can't get up and down the stairs, so I'm stuck up here," she said.
News 12 has covered multiple instances over the years when elevators broke in the complex.
Park City Communities – the Bridgeport Housing Authority – issued the following statement:
"Due to the age of the elevator system, replacement parts have to be manufactured upon order, and we are still waiting for the parts we need. We apologize for the delay and are very much looking forward to replacing the Greene Homes community with modern housing, a process that is long overdue and well underway."
