Several gravesites found painted with swastikas in Watertown
Watertown police say they are looking for those responsible for painting swastikas at several gravesites.
They say the vandalism happened sometime between last Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Police do not have any photos, but say four gravesites were marked with swastikas and the word "Satan" in black paint.
Watertown Police Detective Mark Conway says they don't think the stones were targeted, because the victims didn't share one race or religion.
"I would hope that it's just a vandalism, but depending on the investigation, it could turn into a hate crime," he says.
Police say they consider the vandalism a big deal even if it was a teenage prank. They say security cameras were in place, but they didn't yield any useful clues.
Anyone with information is asked to call Watertown police.
