A homeowner in Shelton is facing charges after a fire last month escalated due to illegal fireworks.

Police say Stephen Lupkas has turned himself in.

In June, firefighters responded to the home on Bruce Street for a fire in the garage.

While extinguishing the fire, firefighters found fireworks were going off. A court order was then obtained to conduct a controlled burn of the residence, and intentionally set fire to the home to eliminate the risk that the fireworks posed.
