Some Shelton High School students are being told that they will not be let into their prom on Saturday if their dresses do not meet the school's dress code.
The school's headmaster announced Friday over the intercom that students wearing inappropriate dresses would not be let in. Specifically, she said no bare midriffs, no cutouts and no backless dresses.
Some students say this comes too late since they've already bought their dresses or cannot get a new one in time.
The superintendent told News 12 that the guidelines were set well in advance and everyone knew about them. He also says just six or seven dresses have been deemed inappropriate, and several parents have thanked the school for enforcing the code.
Meanwhile, students have been circulating a petition to try and fight the prom dress code. The petition claims that the dress code is sexist and unfair. Students plan to present it to the Board of Education and administrators to inspire change.
