A Shelton man is recovering after having a heart transplant this past Valentine's Day.
John Pesavento had a massive heart attack when he was 29 years old. In May, he went on the transplant list.
"Since last April I spent almost 100 days in the various hospitals," he says.
Pesavento underwent a six-hour surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital on Feb 14. He still has several months of recovery but says he feels great.
Pesavento and his wife, Ruth, only know that his donor was a 24-year-old man from New England, but say they are forever grateful to his family's gift.
"They've given John and I a chance at life that a lot of people don't have," Ruth says.
The Pesaventos say they hope to give back either by educating people about organ donation or volunteering at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
