The man charged in the brutal murder of a taxi driver in Stamford is now facing additional charges.
Shota Mekoshvili is accused of killing cab driver Mahomed Kamal last week. Investigators say they believe it was a robbery and Kamal fought back.
Stamford police say Mekoshvili also tried to rob a Stop and Shop in Ridgeway Plaza back in March. Mekoshvili is allegedly seen on surveillance video putting over $200 worth of gum in a backpack. When security confronted him, police say Mekoshvili dropped the backpack.
About 160 of Kamal's family and friends were in court Friday to call for justice. They say the additional charges mean nothing except to show the kind of person Mekoshvili is.
The court combined all the charges against Mekoshvili into one file. He will be back in court on Sept. 16.
