Gunfire in Bridgeport last week led to the arrest of two convicted felons and the seizure of multiple firearms, including a fully automatic weapon.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on Orchard Street last Monday afternoon, where they found numerous .40-caliber shell casings. Investigators say the shots were fired from an unregistered black Kia, and they attempted a traffic stop at Fairfield Avenue and Lafayette Circle.
The driver and passenger fled into a nearby parking garage but were located with the assistance of a Fairfield Police K9 and taken into custody. Arrested were Bridgeport residents driver 27-year-old Demetrus Robinson and passenger 24-year-old Dominick Francis.
A search of the Kia led to the recovery of two firearms with high-capacity magazines. One was equipped with a "switch," making it fully automatic and capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull, according to police.
Both men face multiple firearm- and narcotics-related charges and were each held on $750,000 bond. Authorities said both have prior firearms convictions.
