Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim announced Wednesday that the city’s ShotSpotter system is officially online.
The system uses high-tech microphones to listen for gunshots and instantly reports them.
Officials say the system eliminates the need for a person to call 911.
Ganim also says that the ShotSpotter will allow police to respond rapidly to victims and increase opportunities to apprehend suspects.
The $400,000 system was paid for with federal grant money.
