A southwestern Connecticut landmark closed its doors Sunday night after an 80-year run.
The Silvermine Tavern served its last meal to the Silvertown neighborhood, which extends into New Canaan, Norwalk and Wilton. According to the restaurant staff, residents made reservations quickly and filled up the last weekend of business.
?Everything important that has happened in my life has happened here,? one customer says.
Residents say they will miss the local favorite. In 2007, Frank Whitman, who owns the Silvermine, put the restaurant up for sale. Whitman says the business has yet to sell ? most likely due to the economic downturn.
Whitman plans to release a statement about the closing Monday. He says it?s difficult to discuss it because it?s so emotional.
