Six people recovering after Merritt Parkway crash in Westport
Six people are recovering after a crash on the Merritt Parkway involving two cars and a tow truck, state police say.
Investigators say the crash happened around 7:40 p.m. Sunday near Exit 41 in Westport and caused the roadway to be briefly shut down to all northbound traffic.
Police say a tow truck driver was helping a disabled car on the side of the road when a distracted driver hit the two vehicles.
They say the three people who had gotten out of the disabled car, the tow truck driver and the two people inside the other car were all injured and taken to Norwalk Hospital.
Westport Center Services towing manager Peter Redgate says he was surprised to hear the driver who had sustained the most injuries was his.
"We're just glad the fella's not dead," he says. "He's got a 1-year-old daughter and his wife who I'm sure feel the same way."
Officials are reminding drivers of the state's Move Over Law, which requires motorists to move to the left lane when they see an emergency vehicle.
Police say all six people are expected to recover and say that the driver of the second car received an infraction for following too closely.
