A large crowd attended the dedication of the new Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven Wednesday.
The $467 million hospital is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated facilities in the country and the only one in Connecticut. Dr. Tom Lynch says the facility is patient- and family-focused and features single rooms that accommodate overnight visitors.
The hospital also features a roof-top healing garden where patients can relax. The 14-story building houses many different cancer caregivers, including specialists.
The first patients will be treated Monday.
