Milford kicked off its Solarize Milford program Wednesday, hoping to encourage residents to convert to solar power.
The program is part of the statewide initiative Solarize Connecticut. Milford officials say there are currently seven homes in the city that are solar-powered, but they are hoping to have 100 residents signed up for the program.
To encourage people to sign up, solar company ENCON is offering group discounts on installations during Solarize Milford. Tim Sadler, who works for ENCON, says requests for solar power have been rising by about 40 percent each year.
Solarize Connecticut began in 2012. Since then, 43 towns and cities have joined the campaign and 15 more will launch their programs in the next two months.
