Residents in Soundview are calling for an end to teen violence in their neighborhood after the death of a man allegedly assaulted by a teen.
Police say two teens were fighting outside of Idelfonso Romero's home last week when one of them punched the 60-year-old. Romero fell to the ground and lost consciousness. He was later pronounced dead.
People in Soundview say the violence among teens is far too common and they want to keep the neighborhood safe. Residents have petitioned for a greater police presence for months. They have increased patrols in the wake of Romero's death.
While neighbors appreciate the added police presence, community leaders say there needs to be a long-term solution put in place to keep the neighborhood safe.
