Southport residents are worried they will lose their post office during restructuring.
The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service is restructuring the village's post office to save money.
Residents say they are concerned the post office will completely close, but a representative from the Postal Service says the facility is just relocating letter carriers and sorters to an office on Commerce Drive. Some residents are concerned this will mean mail delivery will take longer, though the Postal Service says it does not anticipate mail delivery time changing.
A post office representative says Southport customers can keep their P.O. boxes and retail services will remain at the original post office. The Postal Service also says it does not plan to cut any jobs.
