With a major storm approaching southwestern Connecticut, some area residents are wondering whether the local infrastructure can handle the onslaught of strong winds and heavy downpours.
According the Stamford Highway Division, three separate crews equipped with vacuum trucks have already been dispatched to clear storm drains.
Maintenance also checked the lines in order to ensure that there is nothing blocking the flow of water. Workers say even a small item could potentially cause a major problem if it isn't removed from the basin.
?All it takes is a top to be covered with some debris and it floods the whole street,? says a crew member. ?It's an easy fix by just cleaning the tops off and making sure everything's flowing.?
City officials advise residents to inspect the storm drains in front of their homes and remove any leaves or debris that could create a blockage and obstruct the flow of rain water when the storm hits.
