Local lobster fishermen say a struggling economy has fewer people buying their catch.
A year ago, Roger Frate, owner of Frate's Seafood, sold lobsters caught in the Long Island Sound for around $10 per pound. Today, however, dwindling demand has sunk the price to $6.99. Add that to high gas costs, and Frate says it's tough to turn a profit.
Frate anticipates needing to lower his lobster prices again very soon. He says his son is also a fisherman, but with things as they are, he can't imagine urging any other relatives to join the family business.
