​The spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. was on display in Bridgeport at the MLK Scholarship Breakfast on Logan Street as more than a hundred people are in attendance this weekend. The annual event raises money to help send high school graduates to college. The guest speaker, Mayor Joe Ganim, said the scholarship dollars empower young scholars. Ganim said it eliminates barriers to going on to college and can help them become future leaders, possibly another voice like Dr. King's voice. Pastor Pyrnie Fitzgerald said she marched with Dr. King in Danville, Virginia, and that her husband was sprayed with water. Organizers say that in his short lifetime, King helped to reshape the American civil rights movement. ​
