The Boys & Girls Club recently unveiled a mural painted in honor of the late Dr. Joyce Yerwood.
Yerwood was the first Black female doctor in Fairfield County. In 1943, she founded the Yerwood Center, which is now run by the Boys & Girls Club.
During her 50-year career, she provided medical care to low-income women, children and families in Stamford's West Side and delivered over 2,000 babies.
The mural is painted on Fairfield Avenue.
