An annual festival that gives back to people in Stamford returned to Mill River Park Sunday.

The Stamford Public Education Foundation, also known as SPEF, has been putting on the US Day gathering for the last seven years.

"The whole day is free for children. So it's just a great opportunity to get people out get kids out doing positive things in the community," said chief executive officer Matthew Quinones.

The day includes a STEMFest, where students get to show off their science and technology skills, as well as a variety of family friendly activities.

The event kicked off with the MarcUS for Change 5K Walk & Run. It pays tribute to a Stamford high school student who died in 2012. The proceeds go toward supporting mentoring initiatives in the city.

US Day wrapped up with an international dance festival that celebrates the community's different cultures.
