Stamford is considering new rules mandating when trash can be picked up.
In the Springdale section of the city, garbage trucks can begin their routes at 5 a.m. Pickup times can start as early as 4 a.m. in other neighborhoods.
Some residents say those times are way too early, so the city is now taking a fresh look at when garbage trucks should be allowed to hit the streets.
Stamford Operations Director Ernie Orgero says the city has had three to four complaints about the early pickups. After those complaints, he discovered that Stamford's noise laws actually ban trash collection before sunrise.
City leaders say a later start time would be a traffic nightmare as most trucks are off main roads well before traffic picks up. They will have to vote on a proposed change to the noise law in the next few months.
