A two-year dispute between a Stamford day care owner and the building's landlord has ended with an eviction ruling and parents in need of a new child care provider.
Maa's Child Care, located on Newfield Avenue, will permanently close its doors Friday because according to landlord Valerie Bednar, the owner has refused to pay rent and wrote several bad checks.
But the day care owner, Marsha Aarons, says the money she owes in rent was spent on fixing problems in the building out of her pocket because the landlord wouldn't do it. She claims this includes replacing an eroding hot water tank and patching up leaky windows.
Aarons says she would then deduct that money from her rent payment. According to Bednar, the money owed in rent is more than $10,000.
The eviction notice was given to Aarons on Wednesday, one day after a judge made the ruling.
