Stamford High School officials are being accused of knowing about allegations of sex and drug use involving a teacher and two students, and failing to tell state child welfare authorities as required by law.
Principal Donna Valentine and Assistant Principal Roth Nordin are facing misdemeanor charges for failing to report the incident.
The allegations follow a lengthy investigation of former 32-year-old teacher Danielle Watkins, who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student. She also allegedly gave that student and another teen marijuana.
Watkins was arrested in July. Police say several independent sources during that investigation brought the allegations to the administrators, who they say did not report them to the Department of Children and Families.
Authorities say Valentine and Nordin were processed at the Stamford Police Department Thursday, but have since been released. Valentine's attorney says his client is being wrongly accused, and that she has been involved in reporting hundreds of abuses cases during her five years as principal.
A statement from the district superintendent says Valentine and Nordin have been placed on administrative leave.
Students told News 12 that they were not surprised to learn of the arrests, and some even said they saw this coming.
Watkins is due back in court later this month.
