Police say a Stamford man was intoxicated on drugs and alcohol before causing a fatal crash on I-95 Wednesday night.
State police say 35-year-old Ramsas Rival struck a sewage tanker near Exit 17 in Westport.
Investigators say the tanker hit a guard rail at the end of the Saugatuck River Bridge and rolled over, then struck a light pole and a tree before bursting into flames.
They say the driver, 64-year-old Thomas Reynolds, of Woodbury, Connecticut, was trapped in the vehicle and was killed.
Reynolds worked for H. I. Stone and Son in Southbury. Police say he was driving his regular route on I-95, coming from Bridgeport and heading into New York or New Jersey before the incident.
State police had to shut the southbound side of the highway down for hours after the crash.
Rival was freed on bond after being charged with DUI. He will appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 20.
