Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia launched a new campaign today to provide every city residence with a functional smoke detector. The first phase will include the donation of 1,000 smoke alarms by First Alert, a company specializing in home security products. Firefighters say they will announce similar initiatives in the near future. Pavia says the program is in response to the fatal house fire that killed three young girls and their grandparents on Christmas Day. Investigators are still probing the blaze, and are unable to confirm whether the home had working fire alarms. Residents can begin picking up their detectors Jan. 26.Local retailers selling out of smoke detectors
