A 13-year-old boy has died following a hit-and-run Saturday in Stamford, police say.
It happened around 8:47 p.m. near 316 Courtland Ave.
According to a news release from Stamford police, the victim was riding a minibike and was with a family member, who was riding a scooter. The pair decided to pull over to the shoulder of the road.
It was then when an unidentified vehicle struck the bike and caused the boy to be thrown from it. The boy landed in the yard of a home. Two people who live nearby and heard the crash performed CPR until firefighters were able to take it over. The boy was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he later died.
According to police, the vehicle involved left the scene. They believe the vehicle is a silver Honda, possibly an Accord, model year 2003-2007. They say there is a possibility the vehicle is multicolored with aftermarket parts that may not match the vehicle's original color. The vehicle would also have significant damage to the front passenger side and is missing part of the front bumper.
Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact the department's collision analysis and reconstruction squad at 203-977-4712.
