A young boy is being hailed as a hero in his home city.
Back in November, 7-year-old Zavier Cordero quickly sprang into action by dialing 911 when his mother suffered a sudden medical incident.
Cordero stayed on the line with dispatch for more than six minutes, carefully following every instruction and even unlocking his front door so first responders could get into the house and help his mother.
"He made my job so much easier," said 911 dispatcher Anthony Delamar. "A lot of times, we're sweating because we're trying to calm everybody else down. It was almost eerie how calm he was."
Stamford police honored the young boy with a Commissioner's Award.
"He knew how to call 911, he knew how to give the information for his telephone number and his address, which is very, very important," said Lt. Douglas Deiso. "That should be a lesson learned for our residents in the city."
Cordero's quick thinking and calm demeanor likely saved his mother's life.
"He's an amazing kid," mother Zemeriah Mcdowell says. "And he has a big heart."
