State Education Commissioner Dr. Betty Sternberg has been named the new Greenwich school superintendent.
Sternberg will be stepping down as education commissioner to fulfill what she calls her dream of about two decades. The Greenwich school board chose her from more than 20 other candidates. She replaces Dr. Larry Leverett, who resigned earlier this year.
School board members say Sternberg?s goal to raise student achievements is parallel with the district?s goals. Sternberg says the issue of giving to one's community on state, national, and international levels is an important goal she has for students.
Dr. Sternberg is the first female Greenwich School District superintendent. She will leave the state position in August.
