State efforts to address opioid crisis include app to help administer Narcan

Gov. Ned Lamont addressed the state Monday afternoon about the measures his administration will take to combat the opioid addiction crisis.
The CDC says Connecticut saw 1,130 deaths from opioid overdoses last year.
The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities called for the state to take a more direct role in coordinating a response to the opioid crisis.
Gov. Lamont visited Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford Monday to discuss the efforts the state is expected to take to turn that tide.
The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recently unveiled its new "Live Loud" campaign, which stands for Life with Opioid Use Disorder.
The multimedia campaign is intended to fight the stigma around addiction and help point people struggling with opioids toward the help they need.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Health unveiled a new app called NORA that will help with administering Narcan to save overdose victims by using GPS to locate naloxone in neighborhoods.

The governor says finding more state resources to fight the crisis is crucial.
